Mark driving on at Crossgar

CROSSGAR Golf Club hosted the Agnew Volvo Open in splendid sunshine on Saturday and with calm conditions once again, the scoring was high.

Killyleagh man Davy Brown got off to a flyer with 25 points in the front nine and despite a slight stumble on the back he still recorded 43 points to take the clubhouse lead.

Tony Brennan then nipped in front, edging Brown on the countback. Winner on the day, though, was 16 handicapper Mark Patterson, who played a superb round of golf to record 44 points and a deserved victory.

The gross again went the way of Davy Watson whilst the longest drive was won by Gary Kennedy and nearest the pin was Jimmy Keenan.

The ladies’ competition was also competitive with Patricia Magee edging out Claire McGourty for the runners-up spot, but the winner on the day and her second podium placement of the year was Catherine Milhench.

McGourty got some consolation, winning the back nine prize whilst Elizabeth Patterson won the front nine.  Second-placed Patricia Magee also won the longest drive with Lorna Stevenson nearest the pin.

Ladies’ twos were won by Samantha Coulter and Elizabeth Patterson.

Once again, Paddy Bell expressed the club’s thanks to Sydney Pentland, representing the sponsor Agnew Volvo.
