Local business joins up with Cancer Fund for Children

12 October 2016

THE Northern Ireland charity, the Cancer Fund for Children, has been announced as the official charity partner of Downpatrick chartered accountants M.B. McGrady and Co.

With offices in Downpatrick, Belfast and Newtownards, M.B. McGrady & Co will be hosting a number of fundraising activities in the months ahead, starting with a charity cinema screening in Downpatrick, in a bid to raise vital funds for the local charity.

The new link with the charity came about after the partners at M.B. McGrady & Co asked their team to nominate which charities they would like to support. The Cancer Fund for Children was the top choice, and funds raised by M.B. McGrady & Co will go towards funding therapeutic short breaks to families at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle and self-catering breaks at Pine, Birch and Oak Cottages in Coleraine.

To launch the partnership, the company is calling upon ladies to join them for a Ladies Night at the Movies where M.B. McGrady is hosting an exclusive screening of Dirty Dancing at Eclipse Cinema, Downpatrick on Wednesday, October 19, with all proceeds going to the charity.

M.B. McGrady & Co director, Conaill McGrady, said the firm is delighted to be partnering with such a leading local charity that does phenomenal work to support both children and their families affected by cancer.

“Unfortunately there’s very few of us who don’t have links or know of someone who’s been affected by cancer,” he said. “The Cancer Fund for Children really resonated with our team, as we’re aware of the tremendous difference that it makes to families from across Northern Ireland at its facility,  Daisy Lodge.

“The partners, our charity project team and all three offices are 100% behind this fundraising drive. We’re really looking forward to the first event and raising as much money as possible for the charity,” he added.

Other fundraising events planned include a festive client event, participation in the charity’s Winter Woolly Walk, and a Slieve Donard climb.

Cancer Fund for Children’s Corporate Fundraiser, Sorcha Mac Laimhin, said the charity is delighted to have the support of M.B. McGrady & Co as its selected charity.

“As a local charity, we receive less than 0.5% of our income from the Government, and really rely on the support of local businesses and the community in order to provide our vital support services to children and young people living with cancer, and their families,” she said.

“We support around 300 families affected by cancer each year and this would not be possible without help from businesses like M.B. McGrady & Co.  I really look forward to working with the team in the months ahead.”

Tickets to the cinema screening can be purchased by contacting M.B. McGrady on 028 4461 6321 or to find out more visit www.mbmcgrady.co.uk.
