DOWNPATRICK Lions Club members have presented cheques totalling £3,180 to two charities.
The money — presented to the Down’s Syndrome Association and Parkinson’s NI — was raised during the very successful Three Lakes Run held recently. In addition to runners’ entry fees, a number of people also made donations on the day and online.
The event was organised by the Lions Club and sponsored by Phoenix Natural Gas and the Oakley Fayre restaurant, with support from AtlasRunning whose officials chipped all the competitors to record their times.
Phoenix marketing executive, Karen White, said as a company actively engaged in the communities that it serves, the organisation was delighted to support Downpatrick Lions Club and the Three Lakes Run event.
“It was fantastic to see the local community come out in force to help raise much-needed funds for these vital charities and we look forward to seeing the great benefit that this will give to two very worthy causes,” she added.
Darren Kearney, of the Oakley Fayre, said it was a pleasure to support Downpatrick Lion’s Club in its endeavours to raise much-needed funds for the two charities.
The race started and finished at the Lakeside Inn outside Downpatrick where owners Margaret and Geoffrey Ferguson provided a warm welcome and refreshments for all.
Race co-ordinators were Fergus Kelly (Downpatrick Lions) and Joe Quinn (East Down Athletics Club) who are grateful to all those who helped organise the event and on the day of the run itself.
Lions Club officials also wish to thank everyone who took part and those who supported the event. They say people’s enthusiasm and generosity helped make the Three Lakes event tremendously successful.
