DOWNPATRICK charity Life Change Changes Lives is one of a number across the district being supported by Newry, Mourne and Down Council chairwoman Valerie Harte during her term in office.
Five charities are being supported with the others including Down Right Brilliant, Newry All Stars Special Olympic Club, Sound Friends and Well Lane Warriors, with each representing a diverse range of causes.
After meeting with representatives from the five groups, Cllr Harte said she is strong disability advocate.
“I believe that everyone deserves equal opportunities and access to resources and have mirrored this by selecting charities from across the district that provide vital support and outlets for individuals and families of those with disabilities,” she said.
“Each of my chosen charities and their volunteers work tirelessly all year round, always going the extra mile to assist those who are most in need. I am truly humbled by the work that they do and am delighted to provide my full support to help raise awareness of each of their causes during my year in office.”
Cllr Harte said the charities she is supporting advocate and provide a voice to those in society who struggle with physical and mental health issues each and every day.
“They provide direct help, give information and raise awareness of issues,” she continued.
“I want to utilise my time in office to raise awareness of the problems they face as well as the excellent work they do. I am asking everyone to get behind these incredible organisations and offer what you can either by volunteering your time or contributing to my fundraising events.”
Life Changes Changes Lives focuses on supporting those affected by mental ill health and addiction.
Through creative therapy, counselling and a social enterprise shop selling upcycled products, the charity strives to improve the physical, mental and social wellbeing of its members.

Manus Teague, who founded the charity alongside his wife Ailish, said the organisation is grateful to everyone that has donated to it as it enables it to provide support to many vulnerable people in this area.
“Being nominated as one of Cllr Harte’s chosen charities is an honour as any funds raised during the Chairperson’s year in office will mean we will be able to extend our reach within the local community to assist even more people,” he added.
