Liatroim are undone by impressive Burren

BURREN emerged deserved victors in a one-sided final to take the Collie Curran Cup back to St Mary’s Park.

The South Down side were impressive all over the pitch and going by this performance they can make a real imprint on Ulster.

The teams were level at 0-2 apiece early before Conor McCartan and Ronan Fegan extended their lead by two.

Fegan then found the net after punching a long ball past the Liatroim ‘keeper. Conor McCartan finished off a flowing move to the net on 27 minutes with Conor McCrickard’s two frees leaving six in it at the interval.

On the restart Caolan Moorehead swooped for the Fontenoy’s first goal, but it was immediately cancelled out by a classy penalty from Burren’s Liam Kerr.

Shay Murdock and Kerr again tagged on minors with Callum O’Toole responding with a fantastic effort. From here on in it was all one way traffic.

Burren hit nine points without reply. Kerr, Fegan and Declan Murdock the chief contributors.

Liatroim accepted their fate as Neil Coulter’s outfit coasted to victory. Burren were worth every bit of their 16 point winning margin.

In Liam Kerr and Conor Cox they have two of the most gifted young players in the county and a duo that are set to be household names in years to come.

The Murdocks, Declan and Shay, put in two good shifts and Ronan Fegan was always in the thick of the action.

Conor McCrickard tried hard for the Fontenoys as did Caolan Moorehead, but it was simply just a case of being outclassed.

The Burren conveyor belt shows no sign of stopping.

Burren 3-15
