A BALLYNAHINCH teenager has joined Irish League giants Crusaders.

Seventeen year-old Leon Barr has signed his first professional contract with the Seaview club.

Leon was joined by his proud father, Noel, as he officially signed his professional terms in what was an emotional and memorable moment for the Barr family and everyone at the club.

A highly promising defender, Leon has represented Northern Ireland at U-15, U-16 and U-17 levels.

He played for Dromara Village youth teams before joining the Crusaders Academy where he has flourished.

He was selected for the JD NI Academy, which meant that he had to move school and reside at Ulster University.

He's just back from America where he was part of the NIFL Academy U-19 squad which won the Dallas Cup after beating Everton in the final.

A spokesperson for Crusaders said: “Leon has impressed throughout his time in the Crusaders Academy with his dedication, talent, and performances.

“His progress has earned him a well-deserved promotion to the first team squad, where he will join preseason training ahead of the new campaign.

“Everyone at Crusaders congratulates Leon on this significant milestone and looks forward to watching his continued development in the red and black.”
