Legends League attracts crowds

27 August 2025

DOWNPATRICK Cricket Club was the place to be on Sunday, when the much-anticipated Legends League brought club

heroes, families and supporters together for an unforgettable day of cricket and community spirit.

The highlight of the afternoon was a thrilling clash between Ferguson XI and Linehan XI, with two of Downpatrick’s greatest club legends, Steven Ferguson and Alfie Linehan, going head-to-head in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

From the very first ball, the atmosphere at the Meadow was electric, with cheers, laughter and memories shared across generations of members and fans.

This was more than just a cricket match, however. It was a celebration of everything that makes Downpatrick CC special.

Families gathered to enjoy the sunshine, the sizzling BBQ, and of course, the fully stocked bar that kept spirits high, while children took part in games and activities around the ground.

The event also carried a deeper purpose, doubling as a fundraiser to support the continued growth of the club.

The generosity of the community shone through, with fantastic support received from players, members and sponsors.

A special word of thanks goes to Castle Sports World, who kindly sponsored the match balls, and to AdRi Ventures, for managing the event with style and professionalism.

Speaking after the match, club organisers hailed the day as  “a grand success and a perfect blend of cricket, community, and celebration.”

Above all, while every player and fan enjoyed themselves, it was cricket that was the true winner, bringing together

generations, celebrating talent and teamwork, and uniting the Downpatrick community in a memorable day of sport and joy.

The 2025 Downpatrick CC Legends League was more than just a match — it was a celebration of the club’s history, community spirit and bright future.

With the success of this year’s edition, excitement is already building for the next one.
