ARDTOLE was the venue on Thursday for a local derby between Ardglass and Kilclief, with both teams looking to bounce back from defeats the previous week and keep in touch with the league leaders.
Kilclief got off to a great start when Rory Sharvin won the throw-in and a move involving Ronan Shields and Eoin Kelly ended with Fionn McFall finding the back of the net.
Five minutes into the game, Ardglass got their first point through Conor Kearney. Ardglass scored another point through a Jamie McDarby free and another point from Caolain O’Shea brought the sides level.
Ardglass moved a point ahead when Sean Carr and tapped the ball over the bar. Kilclief responded with three points in a row, McFall getting two of them and the third coming from Owen Curran.
Five minutes from half time O’Shea showed his capabilities with a two-pointer from a free.
Kilclief restored their two point lead when goalkeeper Mario Atorrasagasti came up to convert a free and Kelly added another when a goal looked possible. Half time: Ardglass 0-6 Kilclief 1-5.
Ardglass came out strongly in the second half. Caolain O’Shea’s free ped short and Atorrasagasti cleared it off the line.
A goal looked inevitable and it came when James Crangle ran at pace up the right sideline and sent a low ball across the mouth of the goal for Pabhraig O’Shea, who was in the right place at the right time.
With 38 minutes gone O’Shea got his second two-pointer of the game when a tackle on McDarby by Liam Gordon resulted in a free being awarded.
It took Kilclief nine minutes into the second half to back on the scoreboard with Kelly converting a free. The visitors then made a change with Lee McEvoy coming on for Ronan Shields.
It was point for point with Kearney scoring from play and McFall confidently from a free.
Caolain O’Shea was in fine form with his third two-pointer with ten minutes to go
Then from a Kilclief kick-out, Paul Donnelly moved up the field sand found David Shields, Shields, whose shot was cleared off the line by Dara O’Shea.
Ardglass stretched their lead with three points from O’Shea and a two-pointer from McFall with the last kick off the game.
