Landmark birthday for Downpatrick twins

Landmark birthday for Downpatrick twins

12 April 2017

DOWNPATRICK twins Ann Radley and Mickey McDowell were the guests of honour at a special birthday party last week.

The duo — who celebrated their 80th birthday — were joined by family and friends at the RGU clubrooms last Friday evening.

To mark the occasion, there was a special cake featuring a photo of the twins who have lived all their lives in Downpatrick where they are well known.

Before her retirement, Ann worked as an ancillary staff member at the Downshire Hospital and Finneston House in the town for many years, while Mickey worked for the old Urban Council.

They born in John Street — an area which many of their generation refer to as The Gullion — and still live there.

Their father, Alex, was a founder member of Downpatrick RGU and while Ann is now 80, she regularly plays darts for the Avenue Bar. Mickey, who enjoyed following the RGU in his younger days, is a keen horse racing fan.

Ann thanked her family and friends for organising the birthday party which she and Mickey thoroughly enjoyed.
