Killough ceramic group present plaque to bar

KILLOUGH people recently worked together to create a unique ceramic plaque that now takes pride of place at the village’s Ann Boal Inn.

A group of ten chose the popular local bar to be the recipient of their shared art project which celebrates Killough’s maritime heritage.

‘Sweet Killough’ on the plaque is a reference to the book Sweet Killough, Let Go Your Anchor, which was written by the late Mr Maurice Hayes, the esteemed public servant who was born in the village.

Run as part of a Public Health Agency (PHA) initiative, between December and February, the PHA Take 5 Steps course aimed to get people of all ages involved in community activities to improve their wellbeing.

While some members took on activities such as Tai Chi and cooking, a group opted for a ceramics arts class taken by Peter Surginor from Preaching House Pottery.

Each participant learnt new skills in ceramics and made their own art project while jointly working on the bar plaque.
