KILCLIEF were crowned county junior camogie champions after edging out Darragh Cross in a tense final at Drumaness on Saturday night.

Both sides took a while to settle with Kilclief taking the game’s first score in the fifth minute through Niamh Conway who converted a free after Mary Swail had been fouled.

Christine Miskelly brought the sides level five minutes later and with 16th minutes gone Maeve Mageean pointed from play to give Darragh the lead.

In a tough, uncompromising first half, chances were few and far between, but in the 28th minute a Mary Swail shot went agonisingly wide.

Darragh made an explosive start to the second half when their full forward was perfectly placed to drill the ball home and give her side a 1-2 to 0-1 lead.

Niamh Conway converted a free to leave a goal in it, but a point from Katherine McMahon nudged Darragh into a four point lead by the 46th minute.

Kilclief had it all to do, but weren’t found wanting and Catherine Deegan reduced the deficit to three points. 

Darrgh tried to respond, but were denied on a few occasions by a resilient Jordan Hynds in nets.

Kilclief seized the moment and a good move involving Eimear Dorrian and Roisin Magorrian ended with Mary Swail finding the net and bring the sides level.

The Ben Dearg girls then took the lead when Deegan converted a free and Aine Fitzsimmons put the icing on the cake when she lofted over an insurance score.

Possession was the name of the game in the dying stages and it was Kilclief’s hunger that saw them over the line.
