Kathryn makes big splash in pool

12 July 2017

A KILLINCHY primary school teacher has just come home for the World Transplant Games in Malaga, with a haul of medals.

Kathryn Glover picked up three gold, two silver and a bronze medal in the swimming pool and ensured all her hard training paid off.

As anticipated, the Games attracted a large field of swimmers, with heats and finals over the two days of competition.

Kathryn was absolutely delighted with her medals, but more so the times she recorded, achieving four personal bests.

“Everyone is there for the same purpose —  participating in tribute to their donors whilst showing the difference transplantation makes to individual lives,” she said.

“I met some amazing athletes who were there against all the odds and it was a great chance to meet up with old friends.’’

GBNI swimmers won 122 medals in total helping Team GBNI top the medal table with 332 medals and winning the Outstanding Team’ award of the Malaga 2017 games.

“I was two seconds off a world record in the 50m backstroke for my age group, so I have that in my sights, but as always, keeping fit and healthy remains my primary goal.
