BALLYNAHINCH Community Centre hosted the Lightfoot Judo School Festival recently and there were some exciting matches.

Girls U-22kg: gold medal, Daisy Hamilton, silver medal, Lucia Lightfoot, bronze medal, Rebecca Barr.

Girls U-32kg: gold medal, Bea Cross, silver medal, Charlotte Ashe, bronze medal, Terri Mateer;.

Girls U-35kg: gold medal, Aanisah Uddin, silver medal, Aimee Dugan, bronze medals, Darcy Lyons and Ella Hawthorne.

Girls’ O-32kg: gold medal, Ciara Steward, silver medal, Tanisha Stevens, bronze medal, Megan Christie.

Boys U-25kg: gold medal Reuben Lightfoot, silver medal, Aaron Dugan, bronze medals, Leo Madine, Gabriel Gormley and Max Crainey.

Boys U-34kg: gold medal Scott Irwin, silver medal, Kyle McWatters, bronze medals, Rudi Hamilton and Philip Alexander.

Boys U-45kg: gold medal, Michael Barr, silver medal, Holden Gibson.

Boys O-45kg: gold medal, Aodhan DiBrita, silver medal, Dylan McNally, bronze medal Matthew Ardies.

Some performances that stood out came from Daisy Hamilton, who two great wins in her first competition.

She was pushed all the way by Lucia Lightfoot, two years her junior, but she found the answers and got her scores on the board.

New to the sport, Ciara Stewart, was in great form with two big wins and took an additional prize for throw of the day.

In the boys U-25kg Reuben Lightfoot celebrated his birthday with four wins from four starts.

He collected a prize for technical excellence as he finished every fight on the ground. He also demonstrated a good uchimata, twice throwing his toughest opponent, Aaron Dugan, for yukos before finishing on the ground.

Another newcomer who set the pace for his competitors, was Scott Irwin, who took the boys U-32kg by storm with three big ippons to clinch victory. He also picked up a throw of the day award for his efforts.

Another clinical display was put in by Aodhan DiBrita in the boys O-45kg. He showed off an awesome foot sweep on his first opponent picking up a throw of the day and also dispatching his second opponent with ease.

Another battle that was intriguing to watch and was hard fought to edge the win came from Dylan McNally against Matthew Ardies. Both players were well matched, but McNally came through for the win.

The other throw of the day was awarded to Aanisah Uddin.
