Judge is to decide if ex-travel agent will stand trial

9 January 2013

A DISTRICT judge will decide later this month if a travel agent accused of fraud is to stand trial.

Kathy Maguire (39), of Tollymore Brae, Newcastle, is alleged to have defrauded clients of La Mon Travel in Downpatrick out of thousands of pounds.

Ward, also known as Kathy Maguire, and a co-accused, William Mark McConkey (42), also of Tollymore Brae Newcastle, face over 100 charges in relation to offences alleged to have taken place between March 2009 and February 2010.

At Downpatrick District Court last Thursday, it was announced that a three-day preliminary investigation hearing into the case will take place over January 21-23.

At the end of that hearing a district judge will rule if all matters should go before a Crown Court judge for trial.

The court was told that over 100 witnesses are involved in the case.
