Jordan in full flow at Slieve Croob meeting

7 January 2015

THE motocross calendar kick-started at Slieve Croob, Dromara, on Saturday, with a cross-country event held by the Mourne Motorcycle Club.

More than 100 riders took part in the event, which saw them all take on a seven mile mountain track in a two-hour fun race.

The expert riders set off first and after 20 minutes the top three

competitors, Newtownards’ Jordan Scott, Ballyclare’s Chris Brown and Moneyreagh rider Harold Crawford had completed their first lap on what was expected to be a 30-40 minute track.

Scott and Crawford left the field behind as they completed six laps around the wet and misty track in one and a half hours before the event was called off when mist made conditions too difficult for the riders.

Jordan Scott took the chequered flag and the win, followed by Harold Crawford in second place, and the closest riders to the leaders were six men who completed five laps, including Newry man John O’Neill, and Joel Brown from Crossgar.

When the event was over, prizes were handed out to the top six riders in the experts class, clubman’s class and the over 50s class, by event organiser Arthur McMullan from Dromara.

Arthur McMullan commented that Harold Crawford has been competing in cross-country events for many years and Jordan Scott joked: “I nearly got beaten by a 60 year-old today.”
