It’s a fond farewell to retiring Dean Hull

29 November 2023

DOWNPATRICK Primary School said goodbye to the Very Rev Henry Hull, Dean of Down, last week.

Dean Hull, who is retiring and has been closely associated with the school since 2001 when he arrived in Downpatrick, attended a special assembly last week.

He was presented with a beautiful Claude Monet-inspired painting of Down Cathedral by P7 pupil Rebecca Coyle.

Dean Hull thanked everyone for their good wishes and said that he was always uplifted by the children’s singing every Wednesday when he came for assembly.

School principal Niall Stevenson said the Dean had always been a great support to the life of the school and the pupils and staff.

“He served on the board of governors for many years and has been very regular in coming along to our school assemblies, hosting our carol services in Down Cathedral and also with his role as a trustee of the Castle Ward Trust which has been a great benefit to the school down through the past 22 years,” he remarked.

Mr Stevenson added: ‘We all wish Henry and his wife a long and happy retirement and we are delighted that he is not leaving his role until almost the end of December so we will be able to say a final goodbye at our Christmas carol service in a few weeks’ time.”
