THE 13th annual awards evening for the South Eastern Education and Library Board was held in Lisburn last week.

Local children were among those to receive awards at the event, which celebrated school and youth achievements.

Awards were presented in a number of categories including the Arts, Service to the Community, Pupils of Courage, Sport, Academic Success, Youth Achievement and Full Attendance. There was also the Tom Nolan Memorial Award for Poetry and the Board’s e-Christmas Card competition.

The evening was compered for the ninth successive year by BBC television personality, Donna Traynor and the programme included performances from three award winners on violin and xylophone, and SEELB youth musicians.

Around 250 children and young people, parents, school principals, youth leaders, VIPs, SEELB Commissioners and public representatives attended the event.

SEELB chief executive, Mr. Stanton Sloan, said the event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and applaud the achievements of many young people.

He said the Board was delighted with the support of our sponsors whom he said made it possible to organise the ceremony to acknowledge the diversity of achievement and incredible talents and skills within schools and youth services across the Boards area.”
