Hughes boys’ scoring spree aids Bredagh

BREDAGH climbed to sixth in the league after they beat bottom of the table Drumaness by 11 points on Thursday evening.

In a pretty dour opening 10 minutes, both teams were continually turned over, continually gave away possession of the ball and kicked shots galore either short or wide.

Fortunately, the Hughes brothers, Donal (0-3) and Cormac (0-2) stepped up to the plate for Bredagh and thumped over some splendid long range efforts from play. Drumaness scored two points amidst these scores before Joe Shields ended the half with a point in the 30th minute.

Bredagh started the second half on the attack, Conor Francis pointing in the 31st minute and Drumaness responding from their midfielder Ryan Connolly two minutes later.

Francis then showed a clean pair of heels to the Drumaness defence when we went on a turbo charged run and coolly slotted  into the bottom left hand corner of the goal.

The Hughes brothers were at it again and rattled over points in the 36th and 37th minute.

To their credit, Drumaness never gave up the chase and closed the nine point gap to four with two points from play and a expertly taken penalty by Brian McGivern in the 41st minute, but Bredagh upped their game in the last 10 minutes.

Conor Francis went on a blistering run and dispatched a shot that was brilliantly saved by the Drumaness ‘keeper Conor Donnelly only for the predatory Donal Hughes to thump the rebound into the net.

Bredagh’s hardworking midfielder Benny Hasson fisted over a score after a lung bursting run and Donal Hughes scored his second goal of the game after Francis went on another high octane run and passed the ball off to him.
