A SECOND round of consultation is due to take place next month into plans for a huge wind farm off the Lecale coast.

First Flight Wind, the firm behind the plan to build the wind farm, is holding a series of information days across County Down to give local people the opportunity to voice their opinions on the proposal.

South Down MLA Chris Hazzard has urged local people to go along and have their say on the proposal development.

“I would encourage all interested parties to come along and voice any opinions, concerns or support they have for the project and ensure that they are heard and their views taken on board before it is too late to do so,” he said.

“I welcome the measures being taken by First Flight Wind to ensure that the public and the residents in the local area are fully consulted in their plans and I hope that what is voiced will be taken into account when final decisions are made.”

The consultation days are taking place between 10am and 8pm in Ardglass Golf Club on September 9, Newcastle Presbyterian Church Hall on September 10, the Great Hall at the Downshire Estate in Downpatrick on September 12 and the Market House, in Portaferry, on September 17,

First Flight Wind has produced a new newsletter on the project which is available at various information points in the area.

The information points in Co. Down can be found in the Annalong Barbican; Ardglass Community Centre; Sea Gems at the Harbour, Ardglass; Castlewellan Library; Downpatrick Library; Mourne Seafood Bar Dundrum; Kilkeel Nautilus Centre; Kilkeel Library (beside Nautilus Centre); Newcastle Library; Newcastle Tourist Information Centre; Newry Library; Portaferry Library; Warrenpoint Library; Warrenpoint Town Hall and Portavogie Port Office.
