Hospice will benefit again from big Castleward walk

20 March 2013

THE members of Strangford and Ardglass Hospice Support Group is gearing up for next month’s five-mile fundraising walk through the picturesque grounds of Castleward.

Ralph Forbes and Alan Johnston are two of the group’s 13 members who has helped the Hospice care for thousands of adults, children and young people in Northern Ireland as a result of their dedication and determination.

The local group has been fundraising in the Strangford area for over 28 years and is preparing for the Castleward event on Sunday, April 14. It starts at 3pm.

Last year, the Castleward walk raised over £3,000 and Ralph Forbes believes that the event’s success is down to the generosity and participation of people in the local area.

“Every year, the local community really gets behind the walk. The money raised from the event helps to provide care for local adults living across Northern Ireland with life-limiting illnesses so I’m hoping the 2013 walk will be as successful as the previous one,” he said.

Hospice fundraising manager, Joanna Pawson, said the hard work and dedication of members of the Strangford and Ardglass Support Group never fails to amaze her.

She added: “Their commitment has put the annual Castleward walk on the map and I hope as many people as possible get behind them and the walk next month.”

The local event is one of 10 stunning routes on offer for walks at different locations across Northern Ireland to raise money for the Hospice. The walks are being held on April 13 and 14.
