Hannah urges people to take to heights for charity

DOWNPATRICK girl Hannah Tinkler is encouraging local people to go over the top in March and abseil down Ireland’s tallest building to raise funds for charity.

Hannah Tinkler abseiled the Obel in Belfast last year and hopes local people will follow her lead to help raise cash for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland and Save the Children.

This year’s charity event, which takes place on March 23 and 24, marks the second anniversary of the Obel Abseil.

The Obel stands almost 90 metres high and Hannah, who raised £300 last year, admitted she was initially nervous about going “over the top.”

She explained: “The abseiling team really put me at ease and I was then able to enjoy the fantastic views across Belfast from the top of the Obel. “Conquering the building and raising money for two very worthwhile charities make it an event that I would definitely encourage others to do.”

Sarah Atcheson, from Cancer Focus, said last year’s participants really got a buzz out of abseiling the Obel which is higher then 22 stacked double decker buses.

Anyone over the age of 12 — with parental consent — can participate, and registering is simple. Just visit www.obelabseil.com and either download a registration form or use the online registration system. Registration costs £30 and participants have to raise a minimum of £150.
