Golf and fun day raises cash in memory of Jordan

9 September 2015

A YOUNG Temple man’s life has been celebrated through a charity tournament at his local golf club.

Jordan Kennedy died suddenly last October when he was just 22.

Although he had suffered from mild epilepsy, the Ulster University graduate had never taken a serious seizure until the serious episode that led to his death.

To remember their son and to raise awareness about the illness that claimed his life, his family hosted the summer tournament raising  £8,000 for the Ulster Hospital Critical Care Unit, Epilepsy Action and SUDEP (Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy).

The gala golf and fun day, which included a charity auction and ballot, was held on July 26 and attracted celebrities including, Dame Mary Peters, Stephen Watson, Gerry Kelly, Joel Taggart, Liam Beckett, Dean Harrison and Keith Gillespie.

Speaking after the event, Dame Mary Peters paid tribute to Jordan who she described as a “loveable young man.”

“Jordan was my friend, a loveable young man with his whole life ahead of him who went out of his way to help other people,” she said.

“What a wonderful gesture from Temple Golf and Country Club to remember Jordan and raise funds for charity.”
