VULNERABLE householders in Down can now request security devices under a new Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) scheme.
The Home Secured project aims to provide practical support such as window alarms and door chains to those who have been a victim of crime or who are considered a risk.
The scheme had been running in the Newry area under the Confederation of Community Groups but will now be expanded to take on the new Newry Mourne and Down council area.
Mr Pat Quinn, from the Confederation of Community Groups, said: “We are delighted to have secured funding to roll out this project to the entire district. It will make a huge difference to those who have been victims of crime, including domestic violence, hate crime, burglary and bogus callers.”
PCSP chairman councillor Mickey Larkin said: “This is an invaluable service provided to the more vulnerable residents of our district. Despite the savage budget cuts imposed on the PCSP this year, the partnership is committed to ensuring this key service remains in place and reaches those who are most in need.”
