DOROTHY McMullan led from the front when she won Geraldine Mageean’s Lady Captain’s’ Day prize at Ardglass on Saturday.

Seventy-two ladies took to the fairways, but nobody could prevent Dorothy from lifting the coveted prize, although Margaret Wills ran her close when she also posted 37 points only to lose out on the better back nine. 

The ever steady Doreen Chambers finished third with 36 points and the gross was won by Heather Duff with an 81.

The front nine prize was won by Catherine Kelly with 17 points and just to keep it in the family, Catherine’s sister, Margot Deeny, won the back nine prize with 19 points.

The Category A handicap (0-20) prize was won by Linda Campbell with 32 points, Frances McEvoy-Smart won the Category B (21-28) prize with 30 points and Noreen Keown won the Category C (29-36) prize with 28 points.

The vIsiting guests’ prize was won by Ballycastle’s Linda Busby with 35 points with Moya Cannon from St Patrick’s, Downpatrick, second with 30 points.

The members’ guest prize went to Teresa McAteer with 27 points, just ahead of Angela Casey in second place on 26 points.

Claire Rourke won the committee prize with 29 points and the past captains’ prize went to Carol McMeekin on 29 points. 

The team captains’ prize was won by Margaret MacNabb and nearest the pin prizes went to Dorothy McMullan, Heather Duff and Vera McMullan, with Linda Coughlan and vice-captain Margaret MacNabb hitting the longest drives.

The men’s competition was won by Peter Deeny on 40 points with Eugene Mageean second on 39 points and Vincent MacNabb third on 38 points.

Jim Gracey won the non-GUI visiting guest 18-hole competition with Patrick Mageean taking the front nine prize. Edmund Gilchrist won the seniors’ nine-hole competition, club captain George Maxwell hit the longest drive and Bill Brown lifted the past captain’s prize. The nephews’ prize was won by Peter Gracey, from Belvoir Park.
