JIM McStravick’s late withdrawal left De La Salle A with only two players and an uphill struggle against the in-form B squad.
But the opportunity of salvaging at least a point was lost when Stevie Galbraith claimed the biggest scalp of his career in the second game of the night in beating Martin Pickles in a five-set classic.
Skipper Peter Deeny kicked off for La Salle A by beating Peter Doherty in five close games.
Galbraith, whose never-say-die spirit has seen him through many encounters, knew that he would have to scrap for every point against the technical master, Pickles.
But from two games down, Pickles weathered the storm and squared the match only for Galbraith to take the fifth 11-8 for a magnificent victory.
And when Garrett Cullen beat Peter Deeny in four games and later also lost to Galbraith, also in four games, the chance of getting something from this game was over for La Salle A.

STRANGFORD A could do nothing to prevent Anahilt from going top of the table in a one-sided encounter in which they were outgunned by their impressive opponents who had this match sewn up early on.
