Fundraiser in memory of Geraldine

Fundraiser in memory of Geraldine

15 May 2013

THE Ballymote Centre in Downpatrick will be the venue this Saturday for a special fundraising event.

It is being organised by the O’Neill family, touched by tragedy when a loved one died of a brain haemorrhage in Australia last year.

Patsy and Gerry O’Neill’s daughter Geraldine Tucker passed away at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne in February 2012 having just given birth to her first child Charlotte Ellen Rose.

Geraldine’s untimely death stunned the O’Neill family who are organising a coffee morning and family fun day this Saturday between 11am and 4pm to raise funds for the Headway brain injury association based in Newry.

Geraldine’s parents, sisters Donna, Roseleen and Gemma and brother Paul, want to assist the brain injury charity. The Downpatrick family also hopes to organise a sponsored walk later in the year, but for now their thoughts are focused on this weekend’s fundraiser.

Mr. O’Neill said the family is still going through a difficult time following Geraldine’s death, but explained that despite their loss, they want to help other people who suffer the trauma of a brain haemorrhage or any type of severe head injury.

He said the Headway organisation works to improve life after brain injury and also provides information, support and services to people affected by brain injury, their family and carers.

Mr. O’Neill said the Downpatrick family hopes local people will support the coffee morning and fun day with the fundraising event providing them with the opportunity to support a very worthy cause.

• Anyone who would like to provide help on the day or make a donation is asked to contact Mr. O’Neill on (028) 4461 4048.
