Four star success for centre

THE Castle Espie Wetlands Centre has been judged a four-star success story.

The Strangford Lough complex has been awarded a four-star rating by the Tourist Board (NITB) confirming its position as one of the most celebrated visitor attractions in the Province.

The Wetlands Centre has many historical and eco-friendly features, including a wildlife garden and energy systems fuelled by the sun and wind. It also has several wild woodland walks, where visitors can get close to the native wildfowl and have access to the centre’s collection of endangered birds from around the world.

The scheme, comparable to those used by the AA and national tourist boards throughout the UK, assesses attractions based on a variety of criteria, such as service and hospitality.

Caroline Adams, NITB Quality and Standards Manager, said Castle Espie has improved in most areas since it was assessed last year.

She said the centre should be “congratulated” having improved on a three-star rating from last year.

Maeve Curran, Marketing and Communications Manager from Castle Espie, said the staff at the centre are pleased to have secured the four-star rating.

“We monitor and try to increase the quality of everything we do on a daily basis, as small changes can make a big difference for visitors,” she said.
