Fishing boat sinks close to Ardglass harbour

A FISHING boat sank close to the mouth of Ardglass harbour today as it was being towed back into the port.

The 19 foot boat, with a two-man crew, had earlier run aground on rocks at nearby Phennick Point. It was towed off the rocks by a local fisherman and the tow rope given to Portaferry lifeboat which had been launched after an emergency call.

However, as the lifeboat was towing the boat back to the harbour it suddenly sank. The two crewmen were taken on board the lifeboat and returned to the harbour.
