Fintan picks up top rally accolade

15 February 2012

DOWNPATRICK insurance broker Fintan McGrady was celebrating after winning his class in the 2011 Northern Ireland Rally Championship.

The former Irish champion, driving his modified 2.0 litre Escort, ably co-driven by Mark Hanna, from Carryduff, had a faultless year on his way to victory although the result only came on the final event.

Snatching some early points at the racing circuits of Kirkistown and Bishopscourt, the pair then amassed some good scores on the really challenging tarmac stages of the Circuit of Ireland, Mourne Rally, Sperrins Rally, and Ulster Rally.

He finished off the season with the forest stages around Tollymore, Castlewellan and Rostrevor.

Fintan said: “At this stage in my life I rally for pure enjoyment but it is nice to achieve honours.”

For next year it looks like the Border Championship which takes in the lanes of Mayo, Sligo, Monaghan and Cavan.

Fintan will also contest the National Circuit of Ireland and the National Ulster Rally where he has finished second and third overall in the last two years.

Fintan would like to thank McGrady Insurances, Downpatrick, Mascott Construction, Crash Services and Millers Oil for their ongoing support.
