Finnegan crowned new Irish champion

28 October 2011

BILLY Finnegan Jnr., from Ardglass, has won his second major stock car racing title inside a month.

Finnegan won the Scottish Open Pro-Stock title last month in Cowdenbeath and on Saturday night he made it a double celebration when he picked up the Irish Pro-Stock title at Nutts Corner.

The grid placings on Saturday night were allotted based on the season-long points tally which gave Finnegan second place on the outside line of the track.

In a rain-affected and incident-packed race, Finnegan drove like a champion to leave a quality field of top class drivers in his wake.

The Pro-Stock formula is designed to encourage new drivers to our circuits to enjoy the atmosphere and thrills of driving on an oval without substantial financial investment, or for those drivers who cannot give the commitment necessary to compete at the very high level.

Pro-Stock features cheap cars in limited contact racing. The concept is to nudge or spin out the car in front rather than the intentional fencing of National Bangers.
