Family of artists staging new wide-ranging exhibition of work

4 June 2014

‘FACETS of Art’ is the new exhibition from the talented Majury family.

Mum Lyn and daughters Sarah and Emma, from Killinchy and Crossgar, are exhibiting some new and past work at Killyleagh Library this month.

The collection brings together a selection in a wide range of media including acrylic, pastel and water-colour paintings as well as drypoint, silkscreen and digital prints.

Lyn has several themes running through her paintings in this exhibition. Some depict local areas of woodland or bogland and the nearby Strangford Lough, whereas others indicate a love of colour, texture and text.

Emma’s work focuses on her love of paper ephemera. Initially attracted by the intricate lettering and designs of the pieces she is then often drawn in further by the intriguing content of the text of each of the pieces of paper.

In this exhibition she has included works featuring old postcards, recipes and commercial documents.

Sarah’s word series is a collection of screen prints of images created by building up lines of text.

The first print in the series is ‘Don’t be Afraid to Gamble’, an image of a greyhound made up of advice from Gamblers Anonymous and an excerpt from the poem ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling.

The text follows the shape of the animals’ muscles coming together to create the whole image. The other animals featured are based on the images from old Irish punts and collection of proverbs and poetry.

Also included in the exhibition are a series of papercut screenprints that illustrate proverbs and sayings. All works in the exhibition are for sale.

Facets of Art runs at Killyleagh Library from Friday until June 28, with everyone welcome to the official opening on Saturday between 11am and 1pm.

The trio will also be displaying their work outside ‘On the Rails’ at Saintfield’s upcoming Summer Fair.
