FIVE year-old Emily Marner has just become an Irish dancing champion after just two years of dancing.

The Crossgar girl won the under-5 British title last on Saturday at Kensington in London.

Emily competed against dancers from all over the UK and Ireland, performing in front of a panel of five adjudicators.

It was a clean sweep for the local girl as each adjudicator placed her first and she received the maximum possible points of 500 out of 500.

A pupil of Millennium Integrated Primary School in Carryduff, Emily trains at the Claddagh Academy of Irish Dance based in Carryduff and London.

Throughout the pandemic, Emily’s dance classes were on Zoom and helped keep her active and motivated while giving her the opportunity to also catch up with her dance friends in London.

Competitions had been put on hold due to the pandemic, however, once restrictions were lifted in June, Emily has been competing regularly and won competitions in Dungannon, Enniskillen, Derry and Craigavon.
