Dylan the destroyer is All-Ireland champion

3 April 2013

PEGASUS ABC’s Dylan Duffy was crowned All-Ireland champion last week.

Southpaw stylist, Duffy, boxing at 57 kilos, met Nicholas Conors from Leinster in the quarter-finals. A very cagey contest, but the better boxing from the Pegasus man saw him come out a comfortable winner to move into the semi finals.

Club mate Pierce Crane, boxing at 54 kilos, met Michael McDonagh from Dublin in his semi-final. A slow start from Pierce in the first round saw him trail 4-1.

Round two was a more even and young Crane put on a great show in the third, but couldn’t close the gap and lost out to the Dublin champion in a cracking contest.

Dylan then met Aaron Radforde from Dublin in his semi-final and put on a master class of evasive boxing, his opponent not scoring a single point in the whole contest until the last few seconds with Duffy winning 8-2 to move into the final where he met the hard-punching Jack Pelan from Cork who beat the defending Irish champion in his semi-final inside the distance.

Again the Pegasus boxer put on a terrific performance of evasive boxing and his opponent, despite landing some good shots, couldn’t follow up as Dylan countered with stinging punches and swiftly moved away out of range.

After three rounds there was never any doubt about the decision and the All-Ireland title deservedly belonged to a battling Dylan on a score of 11- 5.

A great effort from both Pegasus boxers in this top class tournament as to qualify they had to win the Antrim title and now both lads will have a well deserved rest before getting ready to compete in the Northern Ireland Clubs for Young People tournament which is being held in in the Sport and Wellbeing Centre in Downpatrick.

All new members are welcome and training starts at 7pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Sunday at 1.30.
