Drumaness impress against Malachians

1 January 2013

THE Mills produced a brilliant display to get the better of Premier Section side Malachians in a thrilling cup tie.

The Mills started brightly when McGrattan ran into the box got a shot off which was deflected and the ball fell to Stevie Rogan who shot straight at the Malachians ‘keeper.

Stevie Rogan then ran from deep in his own half past several lunging defenders and unselfishly passed to McGrattan in front of an open goal, but he somehow managed to stroke it wide.

McGrattan the got down the left wing and put in an inch perfect cross to McQuoid, but his shot hit the crossbar. The same combination saw another McQuoid shot well saved.

Stevie Rogan then ran through the visitors’ defence, across the 18 yard line and unleashed a volley which the ‘keeper did well to push out, but Rogan was on hand to finish what he started and slotted the ball into the roof of the net.

Philip Rogan had a long range shot which just fizzed over the bar. It was all Mills now and they were not to be denied and just before half-time a great through ball by Conor Walsh found McQuoid and he cut the ball back for Paul Walsh to slot home and make the score 2-0.

Minutes into the second half the Mills defence failed to clear the ball from their own area and the centre forward slotted home to reduce the arrears.

Kearney then sent Stevie Rogan through and he chipped the advancing ‘keeper only to see the retreating full back clear off the line.

Stefan Mason was in the thick of it and really should have scored, but his volley from 20 yards was brilliantly saved by the 'keeper. Stefan finally got the ball in the net only for it to be disallowed for offside.
