Downpatrick parenting programme

28 August 2013

AN eight week parent programme will get underway in Downpatrick next week providing help for parents of teenagers.

Organised by Parenting NI, the programme will take place in Ballymote Community Centre and will give parents support and guidance through the difficult teenage years.

Programme co-ordinator, Roisin McIlduff, said the Odyssey, Parenting Your Teen Programme was developed by Parenting NI. Research has since shown that relationships and communication between parents and their teenagers improved as a result of the programme

“It is ideal for parents and carers of young people aged 12-18 years old and sessions cover issues such as parenting styles, self-esteem and rules and consequences,” said Roisin.

“The programme has been highly praised by UNESCO chairman Professor Pat Dolan who believes Odyssey Parenting Your Teen is one of the most innovative, parent-friendly and effective support programmes currently available.”

Odyssey is delivered by experienced Parenting NI trainers and all work is closely monitored. Parenting NI also offers a parents helpline service for anyone experiencing a family difficulty.

The Odyssey programme runs from Wednesday, September 4 until Wednesday, October 23, in the Ballymote Community Centre, 40 Killough Road, Downpatrick from 7-9pm. To register for the event call the Parents Helpline on 0808 8010 722 or visit www.parentingni.org
