A YOUNG Downpatrick man is starting to muscle his way into the competitive world of natural body building.
Twenty-three year-old Declan Mount recently qualified for the forthcoming NPA British Championships after winning the novice lightweight class at a show in Taunton and he has his sights set on going further.
The Taunton show was Declan’s first taste of competitive action and he can’t wait for more.
“I got a real buzz out of winning and it has given me the encouragement to continue on,” he said.
“Body building is an extremely competitive sport, but a friendly one where competitors all help each other.”
“I started lifting weights to keep myself in shape about four years ago and things just progressed from there. I now follow a strict regime and train five to six days a week.
“There is no time for socialising and I have to watch everything I eat as it is essential that I consume only the right food. My aim one day is to become a natural professional bodybuilder, but that is still a long way off.
Declan would like to thank Macartan Bryce, from Down Leisure Centre, his partner Emma and his family and friends for all their help and encouragement.
