A FORMER Downpatrick man has appeared in court to face two charges linked to terrorism.
Twenty seven year-old Ryan Lavery, formerly of Ballymote Park and Ballynoe Road and with a temporary address now at Burren Grove, Castlewellan, made a brief appearance at Downpatrick Court this week for a preliminary enquiry into his case.
He is accused of collecting or making five photographs of vehicles entering and leaving Ballykinler Army Camp and possessing a document containing information useful to a person preparing an act of terrorism. The two charges related to unknown dates between July 17 and December 10, 2011.
During his court appearance, it was agreed there is a prima facie case to answer. Lavery did not say anything in answer to the two charges.
District Judge Greg McCourt permitted Lavery to be released on his own bail of £900 following confirmation that he would reside with his grandmother for the next two weeks after which his new address will need to be approved by police.
He was ordered to report twice a week to Newcastle police station while staying away from the area of Ballykinler Army Camp. He was also forbidden to have access to a mobile telephone or landline. The trial will take place in Belfast Crown Court.
