Downpatrick man Seamus reappointed to NI Charity Commission

DOWNPATRICK man Seamus Magee has been reappointed to the board of the Northern Ireland Charity Commission.

Mr Magee is one of three people reappointed to the organisation by the Department for Communities to serve a second three year term. He has been a board member since 2015.

A former head of the Electoral Commission in Northern Ireland from 2001 until his retirement in 2014, Mr Magee played a key role in the introduction of individual electoral registration and establishment of a regulatory framework for political parties.

In 2015, he was awarded an OBE for services to democracy in the Queen’s New Year Honours and previously worked in the fields of health, social services and consumer affairs.

Mr Magee is a non-executive lay member of the Health and Social Care Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority and is also a lay assessor with the General Medical Council. He also serves on the Board of Governors at Ballynahinch’s Assumption Grammar School. 

The main functions of the Charity Commission are to keep a public register of charities, encourage, facilitate and monitor compliance with charity law, determine charity status, identify and investigate misconduct in charity administration and take remedial or protective action as necessary.
