A DAY Centre which is used by people with a range of physical disabilities has secured a major award.

The Ardarragh Resource Centre, located in the grounds of the Downshire Hospital estate in Downpatrick, opened in October last year following a major refurbishment programme.

The building, which had been unused for a number of years before renovation work started, was recently inspected by the William Keown Trust which highlights the achievements and promotes the dignity of people with disabilities throughout Northern Ireland.

As a result of the inspection, the Ardarragh Centre was recently presented with a a Prestige Access Award during a ceremony held in Omagh.

The Downpatrick day centre was praised for its its access, facilities and comfort for its service users and was the only facility in the Down Council area to receive the accolade.

Council chairman, Billy Walker, has praised everyone associated with the Ardarragh Centre and highlighted the key role they play helping people who suffer from a range of physical disabilities.
