Downpatrick Cricket Club awards night

Downpatrick Cricket Club awards night

28 November 2018

DOWNPATRICK Cricket Club held their 2018 awards night on Saturday, November 17, at the newly-opened Quoile Bar and Bistro, on the Strangford Road.

Another round-up to a hard-fought season, that was thoroughly enjoyed by players and spectators alike.

The first XI, who had a tremendous start to the season, finished an honourable fourth place in NCU Section 1.

As the middle of August rolled in and promotion became a not unthinkable outcome, the boys seemed to take the foot off the gas.

Highlight of the season was undoubtably clinching of the T20 Trophy for the third time since its inception in 2012. With a good squad of talented cricketers, we are all looking forward to challenging again in 2019.

After being relegated last season to NCU Junior 3, club veteran Paul Tate took the reigns of the 2nd XI this year.

With a number of members returning to the field, who hadn’t donned the club colours for a number of years, the seconds managed to mount a league challenge which saw them win the title and gain promotion to Junior 2 for next season. The awards for the 2018 season were as follows: first XI player of the year, Ryan Smyth; second XI player of the year, Gavin Ringland; Hugh Linehan trophy for best all-rounder, Ryan Smyth; youth cricketer of the year, Charlie Hutton; clubman of the year, Jeremy McCready

Downpatrick CC would like to extend its thanks to all who attended on the evening including guest speaker Nigel Jones and to those who donated to the prize draw: JJD Rugs, Robbie Hutton, Anna & Sonya’s Hair Studio, The Crowes Nest, NailsRus & Beauty, Swift Fuels, The Quoile Bar & Bistro, Philip Brown, Murphy’s Bar & Restaurant. Thanks also to Conor McCormick and all the staff at the Quoile Bar & Bistro for the excellent food and service.

The club AGM will be held next Wednesday night at 7.30pm in the Quoile Bar & Bistro. All players and members are welcome.
