Double up for St John’s

Double up for St John’s

13 September 2017

ST John’s produced a masterful, potent display to lift the JFC crown at Paic Tomas Ruiseil on Saturday afternoon and complete a fabulous double.

The Johnnies started like a runaway train with Alannah Megoran, Cushla Savage and Keavy Burns tormenting an unsuspecting Tullylish full back line.

Early ball into this willing trio paid rich dividends as St John’s raced into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead by the 20th minute and they never looked back.

Savage opened the scoring with a point in the first minute and this was followed up a goal and a point from speed merchant Megoran.

Tullylish responded with a brace of points from Laurelle Campbell, who had just returned to the action after being sin-binned for 10 minutes.

That was it as far as scoring went at the end of the first half and Tullylish knew they had a battle on their hands to get back in contention, despite only trailing 1-2 to 0-2. at the break.

Their task got even harder at the start of the second half as St John’s piled on the agony with a replication of their expansive passing game that had ripped Tullylish apart earlier on.

Scores flowed from the dangerous Savage (0-3) and Emma McNeill as St John’s eased into a 1-6 to 0-2 lead by the 36th minute. The barrage continued unabated and with 37 minutes gone an Aisleen Morgan shot was deflected past a stranded Danielle Byrne/.

Gallant Tullylish picked up the next score through Emma Drainey, but another Megoran goal put paid to any hopes of a Tullylish fight back when she ghosted past several defenders before planting the ball in the back of the net.

St John’s rubbed salt into Tullylish’s wounds as Savage (1-2) and Megoran added further scores to make it 4-9 to 0-3 heading towards full time.

Aisling Cull managed a consolation goal for Tullylish late on before Emma McNeill lofted over the last score of the game for the runaway winners.
