Dog show is success in aid of Alzheimer’s

8 February 2017

LESSANS Livery Yard and Riding Stables, in Saintfield, recently hosted a charity dog show in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

There were 11 classes which comprised junior handlers, pedigree, mixed breed, best trick, veteran dog and best in show. The well supported classes were held in the indoor school which was a perfect setting in view of the unpredictable weather conditions.

The agility test was also held in the indoor school and provided great fun for all the family. The children enjoyed navigating their pets round the course but the tunnel created the most problems, resulting in the children and adults having to enter the tunnel first and hoping that their dog would follow.

The Nose Bag café provided a range of refreshments throughout the day; this was greatly appreciated by all those who attended the event. A large selection of raffle prizes were on offer and stalls were provided by Cloud K Nine Grooming and Pet Supplies and Hillsborough Dog Grooming.

The organiser, Angela Cartwright, would like to thank Philippa Aurett, the proprietor of Lessans Livery Yard and Riding Stables, for the use of her facilities. Philippa’s generosity was in memory of her God Mother Eleanor Watson who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease for some 10 years.

Thanks also to judge Lesley Patton for her valued expertise in selecting the winners, and to all the sponsors of the classes and to those who kindly donated raffle prizes, and to all the helpers namely Mandy Pryce, Jean O’Gone, Garfield Armstrong, Aldona Pund and Linda and Lucy Davison. The event raised £330 for the charity.
