Destructive Natasha is too hot for Fermanagh

DOWN Ladies made it two wins from two with a hard-fought victory over Ulster neighbours Fermanagh in Teconnaught on Sunday afternoon.

Down began well, but struggled to turn lots of possession into scores, with Fermanagh getting plenty of bodies behind the ball, making it difficult for the home side to find space.

Down’s superb work rate, defensive structure and high rate of turnovers, provided the platform for a half time lead of 1-6 to 0-5.

With four of Fermanagh’s scores from frees, plus a missed penalty and disallowed goal by Down, clearly showed the superiority of the Mourne girls in the first half.

It was Fermanagh, though, who began the second half the stronger side, keeping the majority of possession and getting back to within a point on the scoreboard.

However, Down found another gear in the final quarter to power home as convincing winners on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-8.

Many thanks to Teconnaught GAC for their superb hospitality and facilities.

Also a very special mention is due to Teconnaught’s Aimee Greene, who made her return to county colours after a 14 month lay-off with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

Next up is a trip to Sligo on Sunday.

Down scorers: Natasha Ferris (2-6), Aoife Laverty (1-0), Anna McKee (0-2), Mary Adegbamiye (0-1), Lauren Cunningham (0-1).
