DOWN Council are now accepting applications for the Dermot Curran Young Achiever Award for 2014.
Launched in 2004 the award is designed to acknowledge and encourage outstanding young individuals who have contributed to the economic development of Down District and enable them to further develop their business skills.
Applications and nominations for this year’s award will be accepted from, or on behalf of, young business people between the ages of 16 and 35 who have made a significant contribution to business in Down District.
Applicants and nominees shortlisted will be invited to attend an awards ceremony to be held in March.
Last year’s winner was Jude Cassidy, of Judith Cassidy Textiles, Saintfield, specialists in hand woven textiles for commercial and domestic interiors.
The winner in 2012 was Stephen Mayne, of Mayne Communications, Ballynahinch, which is responsible for the design and installation of bespoke audio-visual systems, including the Belfast Titanic Building conference area.
Councillor Curran commented: “Young entrepreneurs are essential to our future. We know that business has been tough for many over the last few years. While the economic outlook now seems more positive in some areas, the number of employment opportunities for young people in the district are far from what we wish to see.
