Delamont run enjoyed by all

10 August 2016

IN a week full of fantastic local running events, Saturday saw nearly 50 competitors take to the start line of the inaugural Delamont 10k race, an event hosted by brothers Adrian

and Sammy Daye, of Atlas Running.

The weather obliged and the sun enhanced the fabulous views of Strangford Lough as the competitors moved along road and trails through a challenging, but satisfying six mile course.

From the start Martin Wilcox of East Down AC made his intentions clear heading the pack closely followed by Richard Coey (Ballydrain Harriers), Ronald Simms (Seapark AC) and ladies’ pre-race favourite Mary Margaret Meade (North Belfast Harriers).

Wilcox’s challenge proved too strong for the chasing pack, veering into the finishing tape in first place in a time of 40:11. Claiming second spot was Richard Coey in 41:41. Mary Margaret Meade continued her week’s podium finishes with a well deserved first place, crossing the line in a time of 42:13.
