Decision time is looming in Rockmount winter leagues

29 February 2012

THE pressure is on at Rockmount for teams vying to qualify for the match-play finals and individuals hoping to win the respective league sections.

The weather was kinder than that of previous weeks and on Saturday the scores reflected this change in conditions.

Thirty one players managed to score more than the regulation 24 points. Martin Mearns was first overall with 31 points, Ian McMullen also scored 31 points to take second place and Neil Coburn with 30 points was third.

The best gross of the day went to David Harrison completing the 12 holes in level par 48 shots, despite a double bogey at the seventh.

With only one week to go in both the team and individual competitions, all leagues are being very closely contested.

In League A ‘Paddy’s Boys’ (805) have moved from second to first ahead of the ‘Red Hot Chilli Wedges’ (803) and ‘Nineteen’ (780) remain in third.

In League B ‘Win When Your Swinging’ (811) have had their lead slightly shortened by ‘Whatever it Takes’ (789), with ‘The Forlorn Hope’ (771) in third.

In League C ‘The Clande-Boys’ (793) have extended their lead on ‘The Gordon McRibs’ (784), and ‘Just in Time’ (784) have drawn level.

In League D ‘The Dough Bags’ (792) have extended their lead on ‘Doddy’s Dad’s Dog is Dead’ (786), with ‘I’ll Know It When I see It’ (784) remaining in third.

Similarly the individual leagues are close run battles. The low section is led by Mark Kyle (262) who has surpassed Andrew Mulholland (261) by one point.

No change at the top of the middle section where the lead is held by William Wilson (258) with Pat Maguire (253) in second. The high section is led by Russell Jamison (263) and his nearest challenger is Paddy Lawlor (260).
