Dean and Justin named for big European event

SAINTFIELD teenager Dean Colhoun has been selected by the Motorcycle Union of Ireland to represent Ireland at the Quadcross of European Nations in Italy.

Dean and his team mates, Justin Reid from Comber and Cian Rogers from Navan, make up the three-man team that will compete against the world’s best Quadcross Riders at the Cingoli Grand Prix circuit on October 12-13. With between 20,000 to 30,000 spectators expected at this event it will be a stark contrast from racing at home.

Dean started racing at junior level aged eight and quickly moved on to the more challenging motocross events in Ireland and England.

He progressed to the adult clubman class in May 2011 just after his 16th birthday and was promoted into the premier quad class in 2012.

With numerous race wins this year and consistent podium positions he is leading the Irish Championship and is third in both the Ulster and Southern Centre Championships.

Dean’s ability to handle his Justwin Racing Can-am machine, his jumping technique and blistering speed over tricky rhythm sections and corners have helped him break lap records at a number of tracks this year.

The teenager is heading off to France on Tuesday to compete in the Maxxis Pont De Vaux Mondial du Quad 12 hour endurance race with team mates Jonny McKnight from Loughbrickland and Mark McLernon from Hillsborough.

On his return he has the final rounds of both the Ulster Championship in Donemana and the Irish Championship in Limerick before the trip to Italy.

The former Saintfield High School and SERC Downpatrick pupil is very excited and privileged to be part of Team Ireland in Italy.
