Crossgar man dancing to success in Britain’s Got Talent

WHEN Simon Cowell says “a hundred million per cent yes” to your Britain’s Got Talent audition, you can be fairly sure of doing well in the competition.

Michael Heath, from Crossgar, is, however, tight-lipped as he reaches the final stages of the ITV competition this weekend with dance group Four Corners.

He’s not allowed to reveal exactly how well he’s done before the live shows start but he has reached this weekend’s ‘Deliberation’ phase, when the judges will be whittling down the remaining artists.

Two weekends ago Four Corners — characterised by its one striking red headed female dancer and 15 male dancers — gave a power packed, audience pleasing performance along to Rhianna’s ‘Only Girl in the World’.

Describing their style as commercial dance, with some jazz and ballet, Michael said they were inspired by the previous success of dance group Flawless in Britain’s Got Talent.

“They attended the Urdang Academy in London, where I am studying,” he said.

The top performing arts college is also where the 19 year-old met many of his fellow dancers making up Four Corners.

Their routine has been choreographed by Dean Lee, who was been among those pushing for them to enter the competition, and the hard work appears to have paid off.

“It was quite nerve-wracking on the night as the group before us got the three buzzers,” said Michael. “When you get on the stage the lights are so bright you can’t see past the first row. It is slightly surreal.

“After we performed Simon said ‘100 million per cent yes’; Alesha said ‘you are world class’. It has given us confidence.

“And back home I have had a lot of support from my mum and dad and family and friends. It has been very positive.”

Four Corners realise, however, that they can’t afford to relax at any stage in the competition.

“Dance always really attracts stiff competition in Britain’s Got Talent,” said Michael. “So we have got to continue finding a way to stand out in the crowd.”
