TRIBUTES have been paid to two of the longest serving members of Kilmore Parish Church who have chalked up almost 100 years faithful service between them.

Geoffrey and Florence Maude are taking a “well earned rest” after decades of service to the congregation, service which has been officially recognised by the Vestry.

At a recent Vestry meeting there was a unanimous to award Geoffrey the title of Rector’s Warden Emeritus while Florence, who is more commonly known as Florrie will be known as Secretary Emeritus.

In his commendation to Geoffrey and Florrie, Rev. Stephen Smyth, rector of Kilmore and Inch, said they were an example and inspiration to everyone of what long term Christian service and commitment was all about.

“They are much loved and appreciated members of the congregation. We pray God’s blessing upon them and many more years of good health and happiness,” he said.

Paying tribute to the couple, Margaret Whyte, a lay reader said when her family first moved to Kilmore Geoffrey and Florence were the first people she met.

“They extended such a warm welcome to us; they were so friendly and always encouraging. If we ever had a problem then they were the folk to sort it and nothing was ever too much trouble, and still today if I was in need of a listening ear then they would be the first people I would call on.

“Geoffrey and Florrie we know that you are just stepping down from one or two committees but we are look forward to having you both with us here in Kilmore for many more years to come. In fact someone said recently your title should be Mr. and Mrs. Kilmore as you both have played such an active role in the life of Christ Church Kilmore.”

Her sentiments were echoed by Elaine Pentland who said:: “Florrie and Geoffrey are part of my earliest memories of Kilmore Parish. I have very fond memories of Christmas nativities, Sunday school outings and parties of which Florrie and Geoffrey were always an integral part.

“Geoffrey taught me in Sunday school; it was here that I found my faith and as I still journey that road of faith today, I will always be grateful for that early foundation.

“As a teenager I spent many evenings at their house. It was always an open and welcoming house for my brother and me. Having been away from the parish for quite a number of years they were some of the familiar faces that welcomed me back and made me feel like I had never been away.

“They are an example of faithfulness in every sense of the word.”
