Countdown to major Dundrum charity event in aid of Marie Curie

14 August 2013

DOWN Council chairwoman Maria McCarthy has given her backing to the ‘Power of an Hour’ fundraising event on behalf of Marie Curie.

The Donard Fundraising Group’s event — a walk, run or cycle for all ages and abilities — will take place in Dundrum on Saturday at 11am.

“The main aim of this special event is to try to and raise enough money to fund another 600 hours of Marie Curie Palliative Nursing Care for local people who are suffering from cancer or a terminal illness,” said Councillor McCarthy.

“Whether you participate as an individual, a family, or a work group, you are guaranteed a great day out. People can show their support by sponsoring a runner or walker and the money raised will help make a real difference to the lives of the people supported by Marie Curie Cancer Care. I am very much looking forward to taking part and I am sure you will agree that it is for an extremely worthwhile cause.”

Jacqui Mason, PR officer for the group, added: “Preregistration on Saturday in Dundrum is between 9am and 10.30am, during which time we will have Mickey and Minnie Mouse flying in all the way from Disneyland Florida to meet all of the children taking part. Face-painting, balloon modelling, tombola and music will keep everyone entertained until our event starts at 11am.

“During the event we will be doing our free Grand Prize Draw, which every adult entrant will receive a free raffle ticket for, as well as also receiving a superb free goodie bag containing lots of wonderful goodies and vouchers. And we haven’t forgotten the kids, they will get a wonderful goodie bag too. So please bring all of the family along for what will be both a fun and very worthwhile event for all.”
